Decoding Green Tires: The Key to Performance Upgrades
What exactly are green tires? In simple terms, green tires utilize new materials and innovative designs to achieve low rolling resistance, reduced fuel consumption, and lower emissions.
In the global push for energy conservation and emission reduction, high-performance green radial tires have become an inevitable trend in the tire industry.
In tire manufacturing, the “magic triangle” challenge persists—balancing tire wear resistance, safety, and fuel-saving environmental performance is difficult, often requiring trade-offs to optimize certain metrics.
Magic Triangle
In 1992, Michelin developed the first green tire, using highly dispersible silica to replace part of carbon black, successfully reducing rolling resistance and improving wet grip, breaking this industry dilemma.
The Heart of Green Tires: Highly Dispersible Silica
Currently, the primary new material for green tires involves replacing traditional carbon black with precipitated silica as a tread compound filler, with ultra-dispersible silica delivering the most outstanding performance.
Ordinary silica can improve wet grip and traction, enhance rubber-to-steel adhesion, improve tire flexibility, and reduce rolling resistance. However, due to its limited dispersibility, it impacts tire reinforcement and wear resistance, allowing only 20-30% replacement of carbon black in treads.
Compared to ordinary silica, easily dispersible silica offers better dispersibility, enabling up to 30-50% carbon black replacement while retaining the advantages of ordinary silica.
Ultra-dispersible silica outperforms both, with superior rolling resistance reduction and reinforcement and wear resistance closer to carbon black. It can replace 60-90% of carbon black, and some tire companies even use 100% silica in tread compounds.
BACOSIL® Highly Dispersible Silica: Tailored for Green Tires
Developed by JSJ, BACOSIL® highly dispersible silica for green tires is a premium product designed to meet industry demands.
JSJ Highly Dispersible Silica
- High Dispersibility
JSJ’s highly dispersible silica achieves uniform integration with rubber, forming a stable reinforcing structure. This significantly enhances tire abrasion resistance and wet grip while reducing rolling resistance during driving.
- High Reinforcement
By optimizing intermolecular forces, it forms a tightly bonded reinforcement network with rubber, providing stronger structural support. This effectively resists deformation and wear under complex road conditions, significantly improving durability. While reducing rolling resistance, it ensures excellent load-bearing capacity and fatigue resistance, offering dual benefits for energy efficiency and longevity.
- Microbead Form
Silica microbead, with its smooth, uniform particle shape, significantly reduces friction between fillers during rubber mixing, achieving more efficient dispersion and a more uniform, stable tread compound structure. This enhances tire-road contact, improving wet grip, and reduces stress concentration between particles, minimizing wear and optimizing wet skid resistance and durability.
